One of Thailand’s Most Iconic Courses
Some golf courses are beautiful. Some are challenging. And then there are courses like Blue Canyon Country Club, where every hole carries history.
This trip started with me researching the most iconic golf courses in Phuket, and Blue Canyon kept appearing in every conversation, every ranking, and every golfer’s recommendation. It’s one of those names that almost feels legendary in Asian golf.
What caught my attention most wasn’t just the course itself, but the history behind it. This is the same course where Tiger Woods won the 1998 Johnnie Walker Classic, finishing 18-under-par against one of the strongest fields in Asia at the time. And honestly, knowing that before arriving made the experience feel different from the start.
Located just minutes away from Phuket International Airport, Blue Canyon is surprisingly convenient considering how prestigious it is. The moment you enter the property, the atmosphere immediately feels more classic and established compared to newer resort-style golf clubs.
Canyon Course is so unique, I really enjoyed playing here
The Canyon Course
The Canyon Course is the real star here.
Unlike courses that rely purely on scenery, Blue Canyon earns its reputation through design and difficulty. The course was built around a former tin mine, which gives it a very unique landscape, dramatic elevation changes, exposed rock formations, lakes, canyons, and natural terrain that make almost every hole memorable.
And then there’s the signature hole.
The famous par-3 17th hole is easily one of the most recognised golf holes in Thailand. Standing on the tee box, you’re hitting across a massive canyon with water below, and for a moment, everything goes quiet. It’s intimidating, beautiful, and unforgettable all at once.
This was also the hole where Tiger Woods famously made par during his winning run in 1998, adding even more weight to the experience. You can genuinely feel the history standing there.
The course layout
Course-wise, Blue Canyon is not easy.
It’s strategic, demanding, and mentally exhausting in the best way possible. The narrow landing areas, water hazards, elevation changes, and fast greens constantly force you to think carefully before every shot. It’s the kind of course that rewards smart golf more than aggressive golf.
At the same time, the conditioning was excellent. Fairways were beautifully maintained, greens rolled fast and true, and every hole felt polished without losing its natural rugged character.
One thing I personally loved was how cinematic the course feels. Every few holes, you arrive somewhere completely different, one moment you’re surrounded by canyon walls, the next you’re overlooking lakes and jungle landscapes. It never feels repetitive.
The facilities also reflect the club’s long-standing reputation. Spacious locker rooms, traditional clubhouse spaces, practice facilities, dining areas, and attentive service all contribute to that premium championship-course atmosphere.
And despite its prestige, the experience never felt intimidating. The staff and caddies were warm, professional, and welcoming throughout the round, which made everything feel relaxed and enjoyable.
A legacy course
Look at the rubber trees! 🌳
So picturesque 🍃✨
If Aquella feels peaceful and coastal, and Stone Valley feels dramatic and grounding, then Blue Canyon feels historic and legendary.
This is the kind of golf course you don’t just play for the scenery.
You play it because of the stories attached to it.
And honestly, standing on that signature 17th hole, knowing Tiger Woods once stood in the exact same place, made the experience feel even more surreal.
Would I come back to Blue Canyon?
Without a doubt.
Some golf courses give you beautiful photos.
Blue Canyon gives you golfing memories that stay with you long after the round ends.
My take on this
My personal review:
⛳ Scenic, challenging but playable, interesting and stimulating layout
👟 Friendly, supportive caddy (tips ~THB500 – 1,000)
💰 Starting from THB5,900/pax
📍 Just 5 minutes from Phuket Int airport
🏢 Golfer’s Terrace, Traditional shower and locker room, proshop, driving range
For transparency, I paid around THB5,900/pax and THB1,000 caddy tip, including green fee, caddy tip, the price definitely fall on the premium side, but for the experience, it was worth it.
Will I come back? If I am back in Phuket again, yes.
